BJP MP Accuses Congress PAC Chairman of Misusing Position to Undermine India’s Economy
New Delhi: In a heated exchange within the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), BJP MP Nishikant Dubey has leveled serious accusations against the panel’s chairman, Congress leader K C Venugopal. Dubey claims that Venugopal is exploiting his position to tarnish the reputation of the central government and disrupt the nation’s financial stability.
In a letter addressed to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Dubey expressed his concerns regarding Venugopal’s conduct, which he described as “unconstitutional and disdainful.” This communication follows reports suggesting that the PAC may summon SEBI Chairperson Madhabi Puri Buch, who has recently faced scrutiny due to allegations of professional misconduct linked to US-based firm Hindenburg Research.
Dubey’s letter, sent on September 9, emphasizes his belief that Venugopal’s actions are part of a broader political strategy aimed at discrediting the government. He pointed to the recent decision by the PAC to call Buch for deposition on October 24 as evidence of the escalating tensions within the committee, which is predominantly led by the ruling BJP-led National Democratic Alliance.
Highlighting the gravity of the situation, Dubey remarked, “Various countries that cannot digest India’s growth are employing a ‘tool kit’ to undermine its financial structure.” He accused Venugopal of facilitating this alleged agenda by pushing unverified claims against critical institutions like SEBI, which he argues are integral to India’s financial health.
In his correspondence, Dubey stressed that the PAC’s primary role is to scrutinize the government’s financial accounts and the reports of the Comptroller and Auditor General. He accused Venugopal of veering off this mandate and engaging in actions that threaten to destabilize India’s economic progress.
Dubey’s claims indicate a potentially stormy future for the PAC’s proceedings, as he has called for restraint on Venugopal’s actions, which he believes could lead to significant ramifications for India’s economy. The ongoing conflict underscores the increasingly polarized political climate in India, particularly as the country approaches critical economic milestones under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership.
As the PAC prepares for its upcoming meetings, the dynamics between the ruling party and the opposition are set to intensify, with both sides poised to defend their positions vigorously.
