YSRCP Faces Setback in Ongole as 23 Members Join Jana Sena
The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) has suffered a significant political blow in Ongole, with 20 corporators and three co-option members set to join the Jana Sena Party (JSP). The official defection ceremony is scheduled for this evening, where the group will join JSP in the presence of Deputy Chief Minister and JSP chief Pawan Kalyan, under the leadership of former minister Balineni Srinivasa Reddy.
This move comes after several days of delay due to Pawan Kalyan’s unavailability. The corporators had originally been elected with the support of Balineni Srinivasa Reddy, who was part of YSRCP at the time. Following his recent switch to Jana Sena, the corporators have decided to align themselves with Reddy’s new political home.
Political experts suggest that this defection, if completed by all 23 members, will have a substantial impact on the political landscape of Ongole. Over the past few months, the YSRCP has been grappling with losses in several municipal corporations and municipalities across the state, adding to the party’s challenges ahead of future elections.
The shifting allegiances in Ongole further reflect the changing dynamics within the state’s political scene and could prove to be a key development in the build-up to the next round of elections.
