Pakistan PM Shehbaz Sharif to Attend One Water Summit in Saudi Arabia
Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will visit Saudi Arabia on December 3-4 to participate in the One Water Summit, a joint initiative by Saudi Arabia, France, Kazakhstan, and the World Bank. The summit aims to foster global cooperation in water resource management and promote international commitments toward sustainable water practices.
During the summit, Prime Minister Sharif will deliver a keynote address at a roundtable focused on freshwater resources and wetlands preservation. He will also highlight Pakistan’s efforts in water conservation, improving climate resilience, and protecting biodiversity. Sharif is expected to stress the need for international collaboration to address climate-induced water challenges such as floods, extreme weather, and heat stress.
The summit coincides with the 16th session of the COP16 of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification and aligns with the UN’s ongoing efforts to enhance global water governance. The event also aims to accelerate progress on SDG6, focusing on water and sanitation, and support the lead-up to the UN Water Conference in 2026.
