North Sound: Australian fast bowler Pat Cummins achieved the first hat-trick of the ongoing T20 World Cup during the team’s Super Eights match against Bangladesh.
The 31-year-old dismissed Mahmudullah and Mahedi Hasan with the final two deliveries of the 18th over, and then proceeded to remove Towhid Hridoy with the first ball of the last over, securing the seventh hat-trick in T20I World Cup history. Cummins concluded his spell with impressive figures of 3/29.
Cummins joins compatriot Brett Lee as the only Australians to have taken a hat-trick in a T20 World Cup, with Lee’s hat-trick also coming against Bangladesh. Lee achieved this milestone in the inaugural event in 2007, and he remained the sole Australian to do so until Cummins’ recent performance.
Notable bowlers who have also taken hat-tricks in T20 World Cups include Ireland’s Curtis Campher and Sri Lanka’s Wanindu Hasaranga, both in 2021, South Africa’s Kagiso Rabada in 2021, UAE’s Karthik Meiyappan in 2022, and Ireland’s Joshua Little in 2022.
