The controversy surrounding the sudden closure of several theatres across the Telugu states has sparked widespread debate, drawing sharp reactions from political and film industry circles alike. Adding fuel to the fire, Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister and actor-politician Pawan Kalyan has openly condemned what he described as a “deliberate conspiracy” aimed at disrupting the exhibition sector.
Addressing the issue, Pawan Kalyan accused certain individuals within the film industry of manipulating theatre operations for personal or political gain. “Some vested interests are using their control over theatre chains to shut them down, causing irreparable damage to the industry and the livelihoods dependent on it,” he stated.
Amid the escalating controversy, Pawan Kalyan took action on behalf of the government and the Jana Sena Party, releasing an official statement suggesting measures to safeguard theatre operations and ensure transparency in management practices.
In a significant development, the Jana Sena Party suspended Athi Satyanarayana, a noted distributor and the party’s in-charge for the Rajahmundry City Constituency, citing his alleged involvement in the issue. The party’s headquarters released a formal letter announcing the suspension, affirming that disciplinary action would be taken against anyone found undermining the party’s values or the film industry.
Meanwhile, AP Cinematography Minister Kandula Durgesh has launched an inquiry into the matter and briefed Pawan Kalyan on the current findings. The state government has pledged to thoroughly investigate the matter and ensure that fair practices are upheld in the management of theatres.
As the situation unfolds, all eyes remain on the state’s next course of action, with stakeholders from both the political and entertainment realms closely watching the developments.
