Pawan Kalyan Responds to YSRCP Walkout, Mocks Jagan Mohan Reddy’s Opposition Status Demand
Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan has addressed the walkout staged by YSRCP legislators in the state assembly. The opposition party, led by Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, staged the protest demanding official recognition as the principal opposition in the assembly.
In a media interaction outside the assembly, Pawan Kalyan dismissed the YSRCP’s demand, stating that the Indian Constitution does not mandate opposition status based on the percentage of votes a party secures in an election. Mocking Jagan Mohan Reddy’s insistence on the matter, Kalyan quipped, “If that’s the case, Jagan should move to Germany.”
Elaborating further, Pawan Kalyan compared the Indian system to Germany’s parliamentary system, where seats are allocated based on the percentage of votes a party receives. In Germany, if a party secures less than five percent of the vote, those votes are redistributed among other parties. Kalyan suggested that if Jagan Mohan Reddy insists on opposition status based on such a system, he should consider relocating to Germany where such arrangements are in place.
Kalyan’s remarks have added fuel to the ongoing political debate regarding opposition status in the state assembly, with both the YSRCP and the ruling government continuing to lock horns over the issue.
