Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan on Thursday laid the foundation stone for the ambitious Akhanda Godavari project, highlighting its potential to transform the Rajahmundry region into a major tourism and cultural hub.
Speaking at the ceremony, Kalyan reflected on the rich heritage of the Godavari coast. “When we think of Rajahmundry, we think of the majestic Godavari. This land, where civilization and language have flourished for centuries, gave birth to revered figures like Dokka Seethamma, known as the Annapurna of Andhra Pradesh, and Adikavi Nannayya, one of the pillars of Telugu literature,” he said.
The Deputy CM emphasized that the Akhanda Godavari project is not just about infrastructure, but also about fulfilling a long-cherished dream. “This initiative has the power to create employment for the youth, especially in the tourism sector. Once completed, the project could attract nearly four lakh tourists annually,” he noted.
Kalyan asserted that strong leadership and a proactive government are crucial for driving growth. He also praised Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat for his consistent efforts in supporting Andhra Pradesh’s development. “It was thanks to his intervention that the privatization of the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant was halted. He is deeply committed to the progress of our state,” he added.
Drawing a cultural parallel, Pawan Kalyan remarked, “Shekhawat hails from the heroic land of Rajasthan, and he understands the valor and spirit of Andhra Pradesh. We are working to revive tourist centers across the state and to showcase our heritage to the world.”
The Akhanda Godavari project aims to not only bolster regional tourism but also celebrate the cultural legacy of Andhra Pradesh, making it a centerpiece for future development.
