Hari Rama Jogaiah Urges Implementation of 5% Reservation for Kapu Community

Hyderabad: Chegondi Hari Rama Jogaiah, former minister and president of the Kapu Welfare Sena, has once again pressed for the implementation of a 5% reservation for the Kapu community under the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) quota. In a letter addressed to Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, Jogaiah reiterated the demand, emphasizing the importance of fulfilling the community’s rights.

Jogaiah reminded the leaders that the previous TDP government, under Naidu’s leadership, had introduced the 5% reservation for the Kapu community under the EWS quota. However, he alleged that the succeeding YSRCP government had failed to implement this decision, despite the Kapu Welfare Sena’s repeated appeals. According to Jogaiah, the YSRCP government’s actions were motivated by a sense of vindictiveness against the Kapu community. He pointed out that the Kapu Welfare Sena had approached the High Court to enforce the reservation, but the YSRCP government raised objections and stated its inability to implement the reservation.

In his letter, Jogaiah appealed to the current coalition government to submit a revised counter-affidavit in the High Court that would support the 5% reservation for Kapus. He highlighted the December 4 hearing, where the Advocate General defended the previous government’s stance on the reservation. Jogaiah emphasized that the next hearing, scheduled for January 28, is a critical moment for the coalition government to clarify its position on the matter.

Furthermore, Jogaiah urged Chief Minister Naidu to fulfill the promise of implementing the reservation that was introduced during his tenure. He also called on Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan to honor his previous commitment to work collaboratively on the Kapu reservation issue, ensuring that the community receives the benefits they are entitled to under the EWS quota.

The 5% reservation for the Kapu community remains a key issue in Andhra Pradesh’s political landscape, with Jogaiah’s renewed call for its implementation adding pressure on the current coalition government to address the matter in the upcoming High Court hearing.
