Pawan Khera Supports Rahul Gandhi’s Critique of RSS During US Visit
Senior Congress leader Pawan Khera has voiced strong support for Rahul Gandhi’s recent remarks about the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) during his visit to the United States. The Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha made headlines with his statements at the University of Texas, where he challenged the RSS’s ideological stance on India’s identity and culture.
In his speech, Rahul Gandhi asserted, “The RSS believes that India is just an idea. We believe that India is made up of many ideas. We believe that everyone should have the freedom to dream, regardless of their religion or color.” He further highlighted a significant ideological divide between the BJP and the Congress, particularly on issues related to women’s roles in society.
Supporting Gandhi’s critique, Pawan Khera remarked, “We understand our country, but we do not understand the RSS, nor do we want to understand it.” He questioned the credibility of an organization that, according to him, avoids transparency by not registering itself, not disclosing its membership, and not making its financial accounts public. Khera added, “What is there to understand about an organisation that doesn’t dare to make its accounts public? And yet, they will teach us what the country is, what the country’s culture is. If there is any threat to this country’s culture, it is from the RSS.”
Rahul Gandhi also criticized the RSS’s and BJP’s views on women, stating, “The BJP and the RSS believe that women should be confined to traditional roles, stay at home, cook, and speak less. We believe that women should have the freedom to do whatever they want.” Echoing this sentiment, Khera challenged the RSS’s stance on women’s roles, questioning their support for women’s participation in the workforce.
During his visit to the US, Rahul Gandhi has engaged with students and addressed various issues, including Indian politics, the economy, and the Bharat Jodo Yatra. His interaction at the University of Texas in Dallas has been marked by candid discussions on unemployment and caste-based census, further reflecting his critical stance on current national issues.
