Samantha Ruth Prabhu Opens Up About Coping with Divorce Stigma
Samantha Ruth Prabhu, one of Telugu cinema’s most talented and celebrated actresses, recently shared her emotional journey following her divorce from Naga Chaitanya Akkineni. In a candid interview, Samantha revealed how the stigma surrounding divorce, particularly for women, made her feel alienated and judged.
Reflecting on her experience, Samantha said, “There is still a lot of shame and stigma attached to divorce, especially for a woman. When it happened, I was called secondhand, used, and wasted life. I received many hurtful comments, and I was made to feel like a failure for having been married and then no longer being so.” She expressed how difficult it was for her, not just personally but also for other women facing similar societal pressures.
Despite the harsh comments, Samantha found a way to embrace her reality. “Initially, it really hurt,” she admitted, but added that she made a conscious decision to “own it.” She emphasized that, although her marriage didn’t follow a fairytale trajectory, it didn’t mean her life had to end with it. “I’m separated, I’m divorced, and that’s okay. I decided to flip the narrative and move forward,” she said, showing strength and resilience.
Samantha now feels empowered and fulfilled, having accepted her past and focusing on her future. “I’m very happy right now. I’ve grown so much, and I’m doing incredible work. I’m looking forward to the next stage of my life,” she shared, highlighting her personal growth and the positive direction her life is headed.
Samantha and Naga Chaitanya, who married in 2017 in a beautiful destination wedding in Goa, officially separated in 2021. As Samantha continues to thrive in her career and personal life, Naga Chaitanya is set to marry actress Sobhita Dhulipala next month.
