A potential aviation crisis was averted yesterday when a specially chartered helicopter carrying Telangana’s Irrigation and Civil Supplies Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy made an emergency landing near Kodad after the pilot detected an engine malfunction.
Mid-Air Scare Averted
Departing Hyderabad en route to a Kodad engagement, the helicopter’s pilot noticed warning signs of engine trouble moments after takeoff. Demonstrating exceptional professionalism, he immediately communicated with air traffic control, identified a clear stretch near Kodad for descent, and executed a flawless landing—bringing all aboard down safely and without injury.
“The pilot’s swift decision-making under pressure prevented what could have been a serious accident,” said a senior aviation official.

Once the aircraft touched down, local revenue officers, police units, and the minister’s security detail converged on the landing site to ensure everyone’s safety and assess the situation. Uttam Kumar Reddy, shaken but unharmed, canceled his Kodad commitments and returned to Hyderabad by road.
