PM Internship Scheme Attracts Over 1.55 Lakh Registrations in 24 Hours
The newly launched PM Internship Scheme has witnessed an overwhelming response, with more than 1.55 lakh candidates signing up within just 24 hours of its registration opening. This initiative, aimed at tackling youth unemployment, was announced in the Union Budget 2024 by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and is designed to connect young people with various internship opportunities across multiple sectors.
The registration process commenced on Saturday, offering nearly 80,000 internship positions across 24 sectors. The scheme is expected to benefit around 10 million young individuals over the next five years.
Among the 193 companies that have posted internship opportunities on the platform are major private firms like Jubilant Foodworks, Maruti Suzuki India, Larsen and Toubro, Muthoot Finance, and Reliance Industries. Internships are available in diverse fields, including operations management, production, maintenance, and sales, with contributions from sectors such as oil, gas, energy, travel, hospitality, automotive, and banking.
To facilitate access to internships, the portal features Aadhaar-based registration and tools for bio-data generation. The scheme aims to provide over 1.2 lakh internships across 737 districts in 28 States and 8 Union Territories within the current financial year.
Selected candidates will have the opportunity to intern with the top 500 companies in India for a year, receiving a monthly allowance of Rs 5,000 and a one-time grant of Rs 6,000. Of the stipend, Rs 500 will come from the companies as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) contributions, while the government will provide the remaining Rs 4,500.
Eligibility criteria for applicants include having completed high school, holding a certificate from an ITI, or being graduates in fields such as BA, B.Sc, B.Com, BCA, BBA, or B.Pharma.
Interested candidates can register for the scheme at PM Internship Portal. This transformative initiative aims to enhance the skills of the youth and boost their employability in a competitive job market.
