PM Modi Slams Congress Over Anti-Reservation Stance, Promises Development for Maharashtra

Chimur: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday launched a scathing attack on the Congress party, accusing it of perpetuating a mentality of entitlement and exclusion, which hindered the progress of Dalits, backward classes, and Adivasis in India. Addressing a rally in Chimur, Maharashtra, ahead of the state’s November 20 assembly elections, Modi said that the Congress party, particularly its ‘shahi parivar’ (royal family), has always believed it was “born to rule” the country.

Modi pointed to the Congress’ long-standing disdain for reservations and its efforts to restrict the rights of marginalized communities. He cited a controversial advertisement from the 1980s under then Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, which questioned the special rights of Dalits, backward classes, and Adivasis. The Prime Minister claimed that the ad, which has since resurfaced on social media, reflected the party’s anti-reservation stance.

“The Congress never allowed Dalits, backward classes, and Adivasis to progress. Their mentality is that only their family has the right to rule,” Modi remarked, referring to the historical dominance of the Gandhi family in the party. He contrasted this with the policies of the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance, asserting that the growing support seen at rallies indicated the BJP’s continued dominance and widespread approval for its governance.

Modi emphasized that the BJP’s Sankalp Patra (poll manifesto) will serve as a guarantee for Maharashtra’s development, outlining plans for economic growth, social welfare, and ensuring that the state continues to thrive under BJP leadership. “The huge crowd here shows that the BJP-led Mahayuti will retain power in Maharashtra with a massive majority,” he declared confidently.

The Prime Minister also addressed key national issues, including the abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir. Modi said that it took seven decades for India to ensure that the country had one Constitution for all its citizens. He asked the audience whether they would allow the Congress and its allies to bring back Article 370 and undo the reforms brought by the BJP.

Further, Modi reiterated the government’s support for soybean farmers, stating that the BJP-led government has provided financial assistance to help farmers overcome difficulties. “We are committed to supporting farmers, especially those in Maharashtra, and ensuring they receive the help they deserve,” he said.

With the Maharashtra assembly elections drawing near, Modi’s comments reflect his party’s strategy to highlight the Congress’ historical failures while positioning the BJP as the party of progress and development for all sections of society.
