Prime Minister Narendra Modi Arrives in Brazil for G20 Summit
Prime Minister Narendra Modi landed in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on Monday to attend the 19th G20 Summit, marking the second leg of his three-nation visit. This visit follows a successful trip to Nigeria, where he engaged in key bilateral talks with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and interacted with the Indian community.
In Brazil, Modi is set to participate in the G20 Summit, where India, along with Brazil and South Africa, is part of the G20 Troika. The summit, scheduled for November 18-19, will see the participation of global leaders, including Chinese President Xi Jinping and US President Joe Biden.
The Prime Minister shared his arrival on social media, expressing his eagerness for the summit deliberations and fruitful discussions with world leaders. Modi’s participation comes at a time when global cooperation on key issues like climate change, economic recovery, and geopolitical stability is expected to dominate the agenda.
In his pre-departure statement, Modi highlighted that Brazil, building on India’s G20 presidency, will continue to push forward initiatives aligned with the vision of “One Earth, One Family, One Future.” He also expressed his commitment to furthering bilateral cooperation with various world leaders on the sidelines of the summit.
Following the G20 Summit, Modi will proceed to Guyana, his final destination, for a historic visit from November 19 to 21. This will be the first visit by an Indian prime minister to Guyana in over five decades, further cementing India’s growing engagement with the Caribbean region.
During his trip to Nigeria, Modi was conferred with the prestigious Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON), a national award recognizing his contributions to strengthening bilateral ties. This is the 17th international award Modi has received, and he becomes only the second foreign dignitary to receive the GCON, after Queen Elizabeth II.
Modi’s visit reflects India’s growing global influence and commitment to fostering stronger international partnerships across continents.
