Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep sorrow over the tragic fire that engulfed a building near Gulzar Houz in Hyderabad’s Old City, claiming eight lives, including two children, and leaving several others injured.
In a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, Modi conveyed his condolences to the bereaved families and extended wishes for a speedy recovery to the injured. The Prime Minister also announced an ex-gratia compensation of ₹2 lakh each to the next of kin of the deceased and ₹50,000 for each injured individual from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF).
“Deeply anguished by the loss of lives due to a fire tragedy in Hyderabad, Telangana. Condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. May the injured recover soon,” read the PMO’s statement on social media.
The devastating blaze broke out early Sunday at Gulzar House, near the historic Charminar, reducing parts of the building to ashes and trapping several residents inside. Emergency responders faced immense challenges as they worked to rescue those caught in the flames.
National and State Leaders React
Union Minister for Coal and Mines, G. Kishan Reddy, visited the site shortly after the incident. Speaking to reporters, he expressed shock over the tragedy and assured that he would personally speak to the Prime Minister to seek further financial assistance for the affected families.
Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu also extended his condolences, stating:
“Deeply saddened by the loss of innocent lives in the tragic fire at Gulzar House, Hyderabad. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. I pray for the swift recovery of the injured.”
K. T. Rama Rao, working president of Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), took to social media to express his grief and pledged support from his party:
“Extremely shocked and pained! The details emerging from the Gulzar House fire tragedy are deeply saddening. My heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims. Hoping for a speedy recovery of those injured. The BRS team is available for any assistance needed.”

As authorities continue to investigate the cause of the fire, the city remains in mourning. The loss of innocent lives, including young children, has triggered widespread sympathy and renewed concerns over fire safety standards in congested urban localities.
