PM Modi Greets Nation on Makar Sankranti and Magh Bihu Festivals
Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his warm greetings to the nation on the occasion of several festivals being celebrated across India on Tuesday, including Makar Sankranti and Magh Bihu.
In a post on social media platform X, PM Modi conveyed his best wishes to the people of India on Makar Sankranti, a festival that signifies the transition of the sun into the northern hemisphere, known as Uttarayan. He expressed hopes that this auspicious occasion would bring new energy and enthusiasm into people’s lives. “Many best wishes to all countrymen on Makar Sankranti. May this holy festival dedicated to the Uttarayan Sun bring new energy and enthusiasm into your life,” the Prime Minister said in his message.
Makar Sankranti marks the commencement of Uttarayan, an astronomical event where the sun begins its transition from the southern hemisphere to the northern hemisphere. This change is regarded as a significant and auspicious period in Hindu cosmology, with the movement from Dakshinayana to Uttarayana being rooted in ancient Vedic beliefs.
PM Modi further extended his greetings for Uttarayan, wishing the festival would bring success and happiness to all. “Have a wonderful Uttarayan! May this festival bring success and happiness in everyone’s lives,” he wrote.
In addition to Makar Sankranti, Magh Bihu, also known as Bhogali Bihu or Maghor Bihu, is being celebrated with great fervor in Assam. This vibrant festival marks the end of the harvest season and the beginning of the new year. It is a time for people to express gratitude for the bountiful harvest and celebrate Assam’s rich agricultural heritage.
PM Modi also conveyed his warm wishes for Magh Bihu, emphasizing the themes of abundance, joy, and togetherness that define the festival. “Best Wishes on Magh Bihu! We celebrate the abundance of nature, the joy of harvest, and the spirit of togetherness. May this festival further the spirit of happiness and togetherness,” he wrote.
The celebrations of Makar Sankranti are also in full swing at the ongoing Maha Kumbh festival in Uttar Pradesh. The festival, which began with the ‘Pavitra Snan’ on January 13, marks the second day of the Kumbh Mela celebrations at Prayagraj. Devotees from across the country gathered at the Triveni Sangam, the sacred confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati, to take part in the ‘Amrit Snan,’ a ritual believed to cleanse the soul.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also took to social media to extend his greetings to the devotees participating in the Kumbh Mela. “This is the living form of our eternal culture and faith. Today, on the auspicious occasion of the great festival of folk faith ‘Makar Sankranti’, congratulations to all the devotees who earned virtue by taking the first ‘Amrit Snan’ at the Triveni Sangam in Mahakumbh-2025, Prayagraj!” he shared on X.
As the nation comes together to celebrate these important festivals, PM Modi and CM Yogi’s messages reflect a shared sense of cultural pride and unity, underlining the spirit of celebration, faith, and togetherness that these occasions embody.
