PM Modi Highlights India’s Humanitarian Efforts in ‘Mann Ki Baat’

In the 121st episode of his monthly radio programme ‘Mann Ki Baat’ on April 27, 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded India’s proactive humanitarian initiatives across the globe, underscoring the nation’s commitment to global welfare and solidarity.

Operation Brahma: Swift Response to Myanmar Earthquake

PM Modi detailed India’s rapid deployment of ‘Operation Brahma’ following the devastating 7.7-magnitude earthquake in Myanmar. He highlighted the dispatch of over 400 tonnes of relief material, including food, medical supplies, and essential commodities, to the affected regions. Additionally, an 80-member National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team was mobilized, and a 118-member Indian Army field hospital was established in Mandalay to provide medical assistance to the injured.

PM Modi shared a poignant account of rescuers saving a 70-year-old woman trapped under debris for over 18 hours, emphasizing the compassion and dedication of the Indian teams involved. He also noted the positive reception from local communities, including blessings from Buddhist monks at a monastery in Mandalay.

Global Humanitarian Initiatives by Indian Diaspora

The Prime Minister also acknowledged the efforts of the Indian diaspora in Ethiopia, where Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) have been instrumental in facilitating medical treatment for children suffering from congenital heart diseases. These initiatives include arranging travel and financial support for families, reflecting India’s ethos of compassion and service.

Support to Afghanistan and Nepal

Further extending India’s humanitarian outreach, PM Modi mentioned the recent dispatch of a large consignment of vaccines to Afghanistan, aimed at preventing diseases such as rabies, tetanus, hepatitis B, and influenza. Additionally, in response to Nepal’s request, India has sent a significant supply of medicines and vaccines to aid patients with thalassemia and sickle cell disease.

Introduction of ‘Sachet’ App for Disaster Management

Emphasizing the importance of preparedness, PM Modi introduced the ‘Sachet’ app, developed by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA). This mobile application provides real-time updates and alerts on natural disasters, including floods, cyclones, and earthquakes, and is available in multiple regional languages to ensure accessibility for all citizens.

PM Modi concluded by reiterating India’s commitment to humanitarian values, stating that the nation’s readiness to assist in times of crisis is becoming a defining characteristic of its global identity.
