Jammu: Prime Minister Modi Criticizes Congress Amid Jammu and Kashmir Campaign
In a fervent rally in Doda district, Jammu and Kashmir, on Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a scathing attack on the Congress party, labeling it as the “most dishonest party” in India. Modi accused Congress of being led by a “corrupt dynasty” and of manipulating elections to maintain power.
Campaigning for BJP candidates, Modi expressed grave concern over the reported assault of an Indian journalist by Congress workers in the United States. He questioned the treatment of the journalist, asking if such actions reflect well on India’s dignity. “Does such treatment of an Indian journalist reflect well on India’s dignity?” Modi questioned at the rally.
The Prime Minister criticized the Congress party’s leadership, emphasizing that their methods are characterized by dishonesty in their quest for power. “Congress’s royal family is India’s biggest corrupt dynasty,” Modi said. “You have to remain vigilant against them. They use all methods of dishonesty to win elections.”
Modi pointed out the failures of Congress-led governments in various states, particularly highlighting Himachal Pradesh. He alleged that Congress made “false promises” to win votes and has since left the state in turmoil with stalled development, unpaid employees, and lack of job opportunities.
Addressing remarks made by Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge, who suggested that BJP leaders would have been jailed had the opposition INDIA bloc won more seats in the recent Lok Sabha elections, Modi criticized this as a primary agenda of the opposition. “Their ideology and vision have become clear through the statements of their president,” Modi said. “Do you want to come to power to send us to jail or to work for the welfare of the people?”
The Prime Minister asserted that the BJP’s mandate from the people in 2014, 2019, and 2024 was to work for the public’s welfare, not to imprison opposition leaders. He also accused Congress of harboring an “agenda of hate,” citing historical grievances and discrimination against Jammu.
In his address, Modi referred to an incident involving television journalist Rohit Sharma, who was reportedly assaulted by Congress supporters during an assignment in Dallas, Texas. Sharma claimed that Congress workers forcibly deleted interview footage and held onto his phone, an act Modi highlighted as contrary to the Congress’s professed values of “Mohabbat ki dukaan” (a shop of love).
This rally marked Modi’s first in Jammu and Kashmir for the upcoming assembly polls. The first phase of voting is set for September 18, covering 24 seats across Doda, Kishtwar, Ramban, and parts of South Kashmir. Subsequent phases will be held on September 25 and October 1.
As the election campaign heats up, the Prime Minister’s remarks underscore the intensifying political battle in the region, with both BJP and Congress engaged in a high-stakes contest for control.
