Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired the 48th meeting of PRAGATI (Pro-Active Governance and Timely Implementation) on Wednesday, emphasizing fast-tracked infrastructure development, improved healthcare in underserved regions, and a stronger push toward self-reliance in defence.
PRAGATI, an ICT-enabled, multi-modal governance platform, brings together the efforts of Central and state governments to monitor and accelerate priority projects. Sharing updates on social media platform X, PM Modi noted that key sectors such as mines, railways, and water resources dominated the discussions.
“Chaired the 48th PRAGATI Session earlier this evening. Infrastructure was a key focus, with sectors like mines, railways, and water resources being discussed. Reiterated the need for timely completion of projects… Also discussed improving health infrastructure in aspirational districts, tribal and border areas,” the Prime Minister posted.
Focus on Infrastructure and Timely Implementation
According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), several critical infrastructure projects across multiple sectors were reviewed. PM Modi stressed that project delays not only result in cost overruns but also delay essential services for citizens. He urged officials at both Central and State levels to adopt a results-oriented approach that ensures maximum benefit to the public.
“Delays in execution escalate costs and hinder public access to key services. Timely, coordinated action is essential,” he emphasized.
Strengthening Health Infrastructure in Aspirational Regions
The Prime Minister also reviewed the Prime Minister-Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission (PM-ABHIM). He called on states to accelerate the development of health infrastructure, especially in Aspirational Districts, remote, tribal, and border areas.
PM Modi underscored that equitable access to quality healthcare is a non-negotiable goal and that PM-ABHIM presents a vital opportunity for states to reinforce primary, secondary, and tertiary healthcare systems.
“States must leverage PM-ABHIM to close healthcare gaps and ensure quality medical services reach the underserved,” the PMO statement said.
Defence Self-Reliance: Showcasing Aatmanirbharta
During the session, PM Modi also reviewed several exemplary practices promoting Aatmanirbharta (self-reliance) in the defence sector. He applauded the innovative efforts by various Ministries, Departments, and States/UTs to enhance India’s indigenous defence capabilities.
He cited the success of Operation Sindoor, executed with domestically developed resources, as a milestone in India’s journey toward defence self-sufficiency.
PM Modi encouraged states to contribute proactively to this national mission, stating that bolstering the local ecosystem would have a multiplier effect on innovation, employment, and strategic autonomy.
