PM Modi, Mauritius PM Ramgoolam Discuss Strengthening Strategic Partnership
Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a telephonic conversation on Tuesday with his Mauritian counterpart, Dr. Navinchandra Ramgoolam, during which the two leaders discussed ways to further enhance the India-Mauritius Enhanced Strategic Partnership. The exchange also covered key regional developments and shared priorities.
“Pleased to speak with my friend, Prime Minister Dr Navinchandra Ramgoolam. We exchanged views on further strengthening India-Mauritius Enhanced Strategic Partnership and regional developments. Mauritius remains a key partner in India’s Vision MAHASAGAR and our Neighbourhood First policy,” PM Modi posted on his official X handle.
The leaders underscored the longstanding, special relationship between India and Mauritius, reaffirming their commitment to deepening cooperation across a wide spectrum of areas. These include development partnerships, capacity building, defence collaboration, maritime security, digital infrastructure, and stronger people-to-people ties. Prime Minister Modi also appreciated PM Ramgoolam’s enthusiastic participation in the 11th International Day of Yoga celebrations, highlighting the cultural and spiritual linkages that bind the two nations.
Reiterating India’s unwavering support for Mauritius’ developmental aspirations, PM Modi emphasized alignment with India’s Vision MAHASAGAR (Maritime Cooperation in the Indian Ocean Region) and the Neighbourhood First policy.
As a gesture of continued friendship, PM Modi extended an invitation to Dr. Ramgoolam for an early visit to India. Both leaders agreed to maintain regular dialogue and collaboration.
This conversation follows PM Modi’s two-day visit to Mauritius in March, where he served as the Chief Guest for the country’s National Day celebrations for the second time—the first being in 2015. In recognition of his contributions to strengthening bilateral ties, President Dharambeer Gokhool conferred upon PM Modi the Grand Commander of the Order of the Star and Key of the Indian Ocean (G.C.S.K.), Mauritius’ highest civilian honor—the first time this distinction has been awarded to an Indian leader. India and Mauritius continue to maintain close and enduring ties, marked by mutual respect, deep historical bonds, and a shared vision for regional peace and prosperity.
