PM Modi Pays Tribute to Manmohan Singh, Remembers His Legacy in India’s Development
New Delhi, Dec 27: Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid heartfelt tributes to the late former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, acknowledging his invaluable contributions to India’s development. In a video tribute on Friday morning, PM Modi expressed deep sorrow over Singh’s passing and highlighted his pivotal role in transforming the country, especially during the economic reforms of 1991.
Dr. Singh, India’s 14th Prime Minister and a renowned economist, passed away at the age of 92 at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi on Thursday night. PM Modi described his passing as a great loss for the nation and emphasized that Dr. Singh’s work would always be remembered as a key part of India’s growth story.
“Dr. Manmohan Singh’s life is a testament to how one can overcome life’s challenges, rise above obstacles, and still carve a place for themselves in history that will inspire generations to come,” said PM Modi. He lauded Singh’s life, describing it as a reflection of honesty, simplicity, and unwavering dedication. “He was not only a distinguished parliamentarian but also an example of how success can be achieved through integrity and determination,” the Prime Minister added.
PM Modi further remarked that Dr. Singh would always be remembered as a man of great intellect, a remarkable economist, and a leader who introduced major reforms during India’s most challenging economic times. He highlighted Singh’s tenure as Finance Minister under then PM PV Narasimha Rao, where he played a crucial role in steering India out of an economic crisis through transformative measures.
Recalling their last meeting in Parliament, PM Modi fondly remembered Dr. Singh as an “endearing personality” who rose above party lines and maintained warm relations with leaders across political parties. “Even after reaching the highest positions in the government and receiving education from the world’s top institutions, he always remembered the values of common heritage,” PM Modi said, further emphasizing Singh’s connection with leaders from all parties and his willingness to serve the nation selflessly.
Dr. Manmohan Singh’s legacy continues to shape the future of India, and his contributions to both the economy and political landscape will remain a guiding light for generations to come.
