Prime Minister Modi to Attend Screening of ‘Chhava’ in Parliament
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to attend a special screening of the Hindi film Chhava at the Balayogi Auditorium in Parliament on Wednesday. The event will be graced by Cabinet ministers and Members of Parliament, further highlighting the significance of the film.
Chhava, which depicts the life of Maratha ruler Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, has garnered widespread acclaim for its portrayal of bravery, leadership, and historical significance. The screening, to be held at the Parliament Library building, will feature the film’s entire cast and crew, including actor Vicky Kaushal, who plays the role of Sambhaji Maharaj. The film’s compelling narrative and historical accuracy have drawn significant attention, especially following Prime Minister Modi’s earlier praise for the film.
During an address at the Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Sahitya Sammelan in New Delhi last month, PM Modi spoke highly of Chhava, acknowledging its portrayal of Sambhaji Maharaj’s valiant resistance against Mughal emperor Aurangzeb. He highlighted how the film, inspired by Shivaji Sawant’s Marathi novel, has resonated deeply with audiences across the nation. Modi also emphasized Maharashtra’s crucial role in elevating both Marathi and Hindi cinema.
“It is Maharashtra and Mumbai that have elevated both Marathi and Hindi cinema. These days, Chhava is creating a buzz across the country. The portrayal of Sambhaji Maharaj’s courage in this way has been inspired by Shivaji Sawant’s Marathi novel,” PM Modi remarked on February 21.
Released on February 14, 2025, Chhava continues to perform well at the box office in its sixth week. The film has received praise for its historical context, emotional depth, and Kaushal’s powerful performance, which vividly brings to life the story of the Maratha warrior. Its international success further emphasizes the impact of Indian cinema in showcasing rich historical narratives.
This special screening in Parliament adds to the growing recognition of Chhava as a significant cinematic achievement, contributing to the ongoing conversation about India’s rich historical legacy.
