PM Modi Set to Meet RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat in Nagpur for First Joint Event Since 2022
New Delhi, March 30: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to meet Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Chief Mohan Bhagwat in Nagpur on Sunday, marking their first public appearance together since the consecration of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya in January 2022. This event will also be their first joint appearance at the RSS headquarters.
During his visit, PM Modi will pay tribute to RSS founder Keshav Baliram Hedgewar on his birth anniversary at Smruti Mandir in Reshimbagh, Nagpur. This is significant as it will be the first time a sitting Prime Minister is visiting the Sangh’s headquarters in Nagpur. The PM will also lay the foundation stone for the extension building of a hospital in the area.
The visit holds political significance, especially amidst discussions surrounding the BJP’s upcoming election for a new national president, expected by the first week of April. The RSS has historically played a key role in the selection of the BJP president, making this meeting an important moment in the political landscape.
In addition to the meeting with Bhagwat, PM Modi will also participate in the foundation-laying ceremony for Madhav Netralaya, a state-of-the-art eye hospital and research institute, coinciding with Gudi Padwa, the Marathi New Year.
This visit comes after a series of speculations regarding the relationship between the RSS and BJP leadership. The significance of the location, timing, and the purpose of PM Modi’s visit has only heightened interest in the event. The PM’s participation in these activities underlines the close ties between the two organizations.
This visit also aligns with the preparations for the centenary celebrations of the RSS, set to begin this October, and further highlights the strong ideological connection between the RSS and BJP. PM Modi’s personal connection with the RSS, where he was introduced at a young age and later became a full-time worker in Gujarat, is well known. In a recent podcast, the Prime Minister acknowledged the profound influence of the RSS, saying its service-driven philosophy and teachings of figures like Swami Vivekananda helped shape his worldview.
Alongside PM Modi and Mohan Bhagwat, the event will be attended by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, and other notable figures.
