Prime Minister Modi Urges Delhi-NCR Residents to Stay Calm Following Earthquake Tremors
New Delhi, Feb 17: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called on residents of Delhi-NCR to stay calm and adhere to safety precautions after strong earthquake tremors were felt in the early hours of the day. The tremors, which struck at around 5:36 a.m., caused widespread panic, prompting swift reactions from the public.
In a message shared on the social media platform X, the Prime Minister wrote, “Tremors were felt in Delhi and nearby areas. Urging everyone to stay calm and follow safety precautions, staying alert for possible aftershocks. Authorities are keeping a close watch on the situation.”
The earthquake, measuring a magnitude of 4.0 on the Richter scale, was recorded at a depth of 5 kilometers. The National Center for Seismology (NCS) confirmed the occurrence and provided details in a social media post, stating: “EQ of M: 4.0, On: 17/02/2025 05:36:55 IST, Lat: 28.59 N, Long: 77.16 E, Depth: 5 Km, Location: New Delhi, Delhi.”
The tremors were felt across various parts of the National Capital Region (NCR), including Delhi, Noida, Indirapuram, and surrounding areas. Though the shaking lasted only a few seconds, it was strong enough to unsettle residents, many of whom rushed to evacuate buildings and seek safety.
As of now, no significant damage or casualties have been reported. Local authorities have assured the public that they are closely monitoring the situation and will continue to provide updates as necessary.
It is important to note that Delhi-NCR is located in Seismic Zone IV, a region prone to moderate to strong earthquakes. As a result, residents are advised to stay vigilant and follow safety protocols during such events.
