Prashant Kishor Criticizes Rahul Gandhi and Nitish Kumar on Reservation and CAA/NRC Issues
Prashant Kishor, the leader of the Jan Suraaj campaign, has publicly criticized Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, over recent comments on reservation policies. Kishor accused Gandhi of creating confusion with shifting statements regarding reservation and social justice, urging him to clarify his party’s position.
Gandhi’s remarks at Georgetown University, where he suggested that reservations might be reconsidered only when equal opportunities are guaranteed for all, have drawn Kishor’s ire. Kishor pointed out that Gandhi’s previous stance advocated for increasing the 50 percent reservation cap and called for a caste census, which he now appears to have contradicted.
In addition to his criticism of Gandhi, Kishor took aim at Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for his political alliance with the BJP. Kishor accused Kumar of prioritizing political survival over the interests of the Muslim community, which opposes the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the National Register of Citizens (NRC). Kishor, who was expelled from the Janata Dal (United) for his opposition to these laws, criticized Kumar for allegedly favoring his alliance with the BJP over taking a principled stance on issues affecting Muslims.
Kishor also reproached Muslim leaders within the JD-U for supporting a party that has enacted laws causing discomfort among the Muslim community, including the Waqf law. He claimed that JD-U’s gestures, such as appointing some Muslims to legislative positions, are merely symbolic and do not address the substantive issues related to CAA, NRC, and Waqf law protests.
Kishor’s statements highlight ongoing tensions and criticisms regarding key social and political issues in India, as well as intra-party and inter-party conflicts.
