Barasat: Prime Minister Modi Criticizes West Bengal Government for Alleged Discrimination Against OBC Youths
Barasat: Prime Minister Narendra Modi asserted that the Calcutta High Court has exposed the alleged “treachery” of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) towards Other Backward Classes (OBCs). Speaking at an election rally in Barasat on Tuesday, Modi criticized the Mamata Banerjee-led West Bengal government for allegedly depriving OBC youths of their rights in favor of appeasement politics.
Modi, without directly naming Chief Minister Banerjee, condemned her for questioning the court’s decisions, suggesting that the TMC might retaliate against judges following unfavorable rulings.
“The court has revealed the deceit of the Trinamool Congress regarding the OBCs. By designating 77 Muslim castes as OBCs, the TMC unlawfully deprived numerous OBC youths of their rights. The party has taken away the rights of OBC youths to support its appeasement politics,” Modi stated.
Last week, the Calcutta High Court invalidated the OBC status of several classes in West Bengal, ruling that such reservations in services and posts in the state are “illegal.” The court observed that “religion indeed appears to have been the sole criterion” for these classifications, deeming it an affront to the Muslim community as a whole.
In response, Banerjee claimed she would “not accept” the ruling, alleging that the verdict was influenced by the BJP.
Modi further remarked, “It is evident that the TMC does not appreciate those who expose its treachery. The party’s questioning of the judiciary is astonishing. Does the TMC have any faith in the judiciary and our Constitution?”
He accused the TMC of unprecedented attacks on judges and expressed concerns over potential threats against the judiciary in West Bengal.
Modi also criticized the INDIA bloc and the TMC for alleged corruption, pledging that those engaging in corrupt practices would not be spared. “The INDI alliance talks about scrutinizing the incomes of the poor and middle class, but we will scrutinize the black money of these corrupt individuals. We will ensure that those involved in corruption will think twice before engaging in such activities,” he declared.
Reaffirming his commitment to combat corruption, Modi reiterated his stance of “na khaunga, na khane dunga” (I will neither accept bribes nor allow others to take), and added, “Those who have taken bribes will have to return it.”
Modi also criticized Banerjee for her comments against monks from the Ramakrishna Mission and Bharat Sevashram Sangha, alleging that these organizations were being threatened for the sake of appeasement politics.
“The TMC cannot tolerate the truth and targets anyone who exposes its misdeeds. A TMC MLA recently threatened to drown Hindus in the river Bhagirathi. Following this, saints and monks in Bengal demanded the party correct its stance, but the TMC resorted to abusing them for appeasement politics,” Modi asserted.
He also referenced the Sandeshkhali case, criticizing the TMC for not taking action against culprits and for targeting women seeking justice.
Applauding BJP candidate Rekha Patra from Basirhat for her courage, Modi said, “The women of this state and the country stand with her.”
Modi criticized the TMC for opposing the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) in Bengal, attributing it to vote bank politics. “Due to appeasement politics, the TMC is spreading falsehoods about the CAA. However, the entire country is witnessing refugees receiving citizenship, respecting them as sons and daughters of Mother India,” he stated.
Addressing the Matua community, who are expected to benefit most from the CAA, Modi assured, “No power in the world can stop you from obtaining Indian citizenship.”
At another rally in Baruipur under the Jadavpur Lok Sabha constituency, Modi asserted that the TMC has no connection with good.
