Wayanad: Priyanka Gandhi Reflects on Political Journey Ahead of By-Poll
Wayanad: Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi addressed a large gathering in Kalpetta on October 23, ahead of filing her nominations for the upcoming Wayanad Lok Sabha by-poll. She shared her political journey, revealing that she began campaigning at the age of 17 for her late father, Rajiv Gandhi, in 1989. Over the past 35 years, she has actively supported her mother, Sonia Gandhi, her brother, Rahul Gandhi, and other party colleagues in various elections.
Her remarks came in response to BJP candidate Navya Haridas’s claim of having more experience in representing the people than Priyanka. The Congress leader emphasized her commitment to Wayanad, stating that it was an honor to be chosen to represent its people. She expressed admiration for the resilience shown by Wayanad residents during the recent landslides that affected the district.
During her address, Priyanka was joined by prominent party figures, including Congress Parliamentary Party President Sonia Gandhi, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, Congress Chief Mallikarjun Kharge, and Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. She will contest against LDF candidate Sathyan Mokeri and BJP’s Navya Haridas in the by-election, necessitated by Rahul Gandhi’s decision to vacate the Wayanad seat, which he won alongside Rae Bareli.
Voting in Wayanad is scheduled for November 13, marking a significant electoral moment for the Congress party in the region.
