Priyanka Gandhi Vadra Hails Vinesh Phogat’s Journey, Expresses Confidence in Her Comeback
New Delhi: Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra praised wrestler Vinesh Phogat on Wednesday for her inspiring journey and significant impact on aspiring athletes. Her remarks followed Phogat’s disqualification from the Paris Olympics due to an overweight issue before her women’s 50kg final, resulting in her returning without a medal.
Phogat had made history by becoming the first Indian woman wrestler to reach the gold medal bout. Despite being on track for at least a silver medal, the disqualification halted her remarkable progress.
In a heartfelt message on X, Priyanka Gandhi acknowledged Phogat’s courage, dedication, and the pride she brought to the nation. “Your brilliant game has given wings to the dreams of millions of girls who come from small towns, face numerous challenges, and aspire to reach big stages. Your journey filled the entire country with pride,” she wrote.
Gandhi emphasized the strength Phogat’s journey has provided to many and assured her of widespread support. “In this difficult time, crores of people are standing with you, as they did throughout the competition. Do not consider yourself alone; you are our champion, and you will always be our champion. I have full faith that you will come back even stronger,” she added.
