Pushpa 2: The Rule Breaks Box Office Records, Ticket Prices Reduced Amidst High Costs
The much-anticipated film Pushpa 2: The Rule, starring Allu Arjun and directed by Sukumar, has made an impressive impact at the global box office, grossing ₹621 crore worldwide within just three days of its release, according to the film’s makers. However, the steep increase in ticket prices, following government-approved hikes in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, led to concerns and hesitance among moviegoers, affecting theater attendance for some.
In a bid to address these concerns, the Telangana government intervened by reducing ticket prices for Pushpa 2 from December 9 to 16. Previously, the ticket price hike had been approved in a slab-based system, with single-screen tickets capped at ₹105 and multiplex tickets priced up to ₹150.
Despite this official price cap, discrepancies have been observed in the Nizam region. According to popular online ticketing platform BookMyShow, ticket prices in certain theaters are still significantly higher than the approved rates. In the Nizam region, single-screen tickets are priced at ₹200 (excluding GST), while multiplex tickets are being sold for ₹395 (plus GST). These prices indicate that some theaters may not have fully adhered to the government-approved ticket price increases.
The ticket prices in other regions of Andhra Pradesh also show a similar trend. In Vijayawada, single-screen tickets are priced at ₹220, while multiplex tickets range from ₹300. In Visakhapatnam, single-screen tickets are priced at ₹295, and multiplex ticket prices fluctuate between ₹300 and ₹377, depending on the theater and seating category.
Despite the ticket price challenges, Pushpa 2 has proven to be a massive commercial success, with the film continuing to draw audiences in large numbers, both in India and internationally. The film’s record-breaking box office collection reflects the widespread anticipation and love for Allu Arjun’s portrayal of the character Pushpa, as well as the compelling storytelling by Sukumar.
