In a strong diplomatic gesture, Qatar’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Mohamed bin Abdulaziz bin Saleh Al Khulaifi, on Monday reaffirmed Qatar’s unwavering support for India’s fight against cross-border terrorism. The affirmation came during a high-level meeting with an all-party Indian parliamentary delegation led by NCP (Sharad Pawar) MP Supriya Sule.
The Indian delegation—comprising lawmakers from across the political spectrum—delivered a unified message on India’s zero-tolerance approach to terrorism, especially in the wake of the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack and the decisive military response under Operation Sindoor.
According to a statement from the Indian Embassy in Doha, the delegation conveyed “India’s firm resolve to safeguard its sovereignty and national ethos” and emphasized the country’s “non-negotiable stance on eliminating state-sponsored terror networks.”
Minister Khulaifi assured the delegation of Qatar’s solidarity and echoed India’s call for a unified global front against terrorism. He emphasized that regional peace and prosperity are directly linked to eradicating extremism from its roots.
The multiparty delegation included senior leaders like Rajiv Pratap Rudy (BJP), Anurag Thakur (BJP), V. Muraleedharan (BJP), Congress leaders Manish Tewari and Anand Sharma, Lavu Sri Krishna Devarayalu (TDP), Vikramjeet Singh Sawhney (AAP), and former diplomat Syed Akbaruddin.
The Indian lawmakers also engaged in dialogue with Qatar’s Shura Council. Deputy Speaker Sheikha Hamda bint Hassan Al Sulaiti and fellow parliamentarians welcomed the delegation and expressed shared concern over the rising threat of terrorism. Both sides agreed on the necessity for strong, collaborative action against terror financing and safe havens.
Supriya Sule, addressing the media after the meetings, said: “We are encouraged by Qatar’s clear and principled support for India’s counter-terrorism policy. Our message was received with seriousness and empathy.”
Congress MP Manish Tewari highlighted the broader civilisational context of India’s position. “India is not just a modern democracy—it is a civilisational powerhouse with 5,000 years of history, embracing pluralism. No country has the right to wage a proxy war against us through terror. We retain every right to defend ourselves.”
The delegation’s visit also included interactions with editorial boards of Al Sharq and The Peninsula, where they outlined India’s global counter-terrorism narrative. A visit to the Middle East Council for Global Affairs followed, focusing on regional security frameworks and India’s diplomatic outreach in the Gulf.
As India strengthens its international partnerships, the delegation’s visit to Qatar has sent a powerful message—that the global community must unite to combat terror in all its manifestations, with no room for neutrality when peace is at stake.
