New Delhi: In response to the alleged assault on AAP Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal, Congress spokesperson Ragini Nayak emphasized the necessity for stringent actions against the perpetrator involved.
Both the Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party are contesting elections jointly under the banner of the INDIA bloc in the national capital.
Nayak reiterated the Congress party’s unequivocal stance on the matter, stating, “In cases of crimes against women, regardless of the political affiliation of the perpetrator, the most severe measures must be taken.” She highlighted that this sentiment was echoed by AAP MP Sanjay Singh and reasserted by the Congress party.
Furthermore, Nayak noted Maliwal’s familiarity with her legal rights, given her prior role as the chairperson of DCW, speculating that Maliwal likely initiated police involvement following the incident.
“The legal proceedings will follow their due course,” Nayak affirmed.
On May 13, Maliwal visited the Civil Lines police station and reported an alleged assault by a member of Kejriwal’s personal staff at the chief minister’s official residence. However, formal charges have not been lodged with the police.
Earlier on Thursday, the National Commission for Women (NCW) summoned Kejriwal’s aide Bibhav Kumar in response to Maliwal’s allegations. His hearing is scheduled for Friday at 11 am.
AAP senior leader Sanjay Singh had previously condemned the incident involving Maliwal, labeling it as “highly condemnable.”
