Rahul Gandhi Criticizes PM-Designate Modi Over NEET-UG Exam Controversy
New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi criticized Prime Minister-designate Narendra Modi on Sunday regarding the alleged irregularities in the NEET-UG medical entrance exam, claiming that these issues have adversely affected over 2.4 million students even before Modi’s new term begins.
Gandhi assured students that he will be their voice in Parliament, addressing concerns related to their future.
Amid allegations of inflated marks in the NEET-UG exam, the National Testing Agency (NTA) announced on Saturday that the education ministry has established a four-member panel to review the grace marks awarded to over 1,500 candidates.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Gandhi stated, “Narendra Modi has not even taken oath yet, and the irregularities in the NEET exam have devastated more than 2.4 million students and their families.”
He highlighted that six students from a single exam center topped the exam with maximum marks, while others received scores that seem implausible, yet the government denies any possibility of a paper leak.
Gandhi emphasized that the Congress party had developed a comprehensive plan to combat the ‘paper leak industry’ allegedly operating with the collusion of the education mafia and government machinery. “We had pledged in our manifesto to eliminate paper leaks by enacting a law,” he said.
“Today, I assure all the students of the country that I will be your voice in Parliament and will strongly raise the issues related to your future,” Gandhi added. He affirmed that the youth have faith in the INDIA bloc, which will ensure their voices are heard.
The NTA has denied any irregularities, attributing higher scores to changes in the NCERT textbooks and the awarding of grace marks for time lost at examination centers.
The issue has escalated politically, with several parties questioning the integrity of the national medical entrance exam. On Friday, the Congress party demanded a high-level investigation supervised by the Supreme Court into the alleged irregularities in NEET, accusing the BJP of misleading young people and jeopardizing their futures.
