New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government on Saturday for the postponement of the NEET-PG examination, describing it as “another unfortunate example of the education system’s deterioration.”
“Now NEET-PG is also postponed! This is another unfortunate example of the ruined education system under the rule of Narendra Modi,” Gandhi remarked.
He further asserted that under the BJP’s governance, students are compelled to fight the government to secure their future instead of focusing on their studies and career development.
“It is now evident – Modi, who has consistently remained a passive observer, is entirely powerless against the paper leak racket and education mafia. Narendra Modi’s inept government poses the greatest threat to the future of our students – we must safeguard the future of our nation from this administration,” Gandhi added.
The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare postponed the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Postgraduate (NEET-PG) Examination, initially scheduled for Sunday, announcing that a new date would be provided promptly.
The NEET-PG exams were initially set for June 23.
“Considering the recent allegations regarding the integrity of certain competitive examinations, the Ministry of Health has decided to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the NEET-PG Entrance Examination processes, administered by the National Board of Examination for medical students,” stated the ministry.
“As a precautionary measure, it has been decided to postpone the NEET-PG Entrance Examination, scheduled for June 23, 2024. The new date for this examination will be announced at the earliest,” the ministry added.
“The Ministry of Health sincerely regrets any inconvenience caused to the students. This decision has been made in the best interests of the students and to uphold the sanctity of the examination process,” the ministry stated.
The National Testing Agency (NTA), responsible for conducting the NEET-UG exams, has faced criticism over alleged irregularities, leading to several protests nationwide. Protestors and political parties have demanded the disbandment of the NTA.
Concerns escalated after an unprecedented 67 candidates achieved a perfect score of 720 marks out of 720.
In response, the Ministry of Education has established a high-level committee of experts to recommend reforms in the examination process, improvements in data security protocols, and the overall functioning of the NTA.
The seven-member committee, led by former ISRO chairman Dr. K. Radhakrishnan, will submit its report to the ministry within the next two months.
