Rahul Gandhi Demands Nationwide Caste Census, Criticizes Lack of Representation in Miss India and Media
Prayagraj In a recent address at the ‘Samvidhan Samman Sammelan,’ Congress leader Rahul Gandhi called for a nationwide caste census, highlighting the absence of Dalit, tribal, and OBC representation among Miss India winners. Gandhi criticized the lack of inclusivity and participation of the “90 percent” of the population in key societal domains.
During his speech, Gandhi pointed out the underrepresentation of marginalized communities in prominent public spheres, stating, “I have checked the list of Miss India, which did not feature any Dalit, Adivasi, or OBC women.” He criticized the broader media and entertainment sectors for not reflecting this diversity, arguing that they focus on high-profile figures while overlooking everyday contributors like cobblers and plumbers.
Gandhi also accused the BJP of potentially portraying his call for a caste census as divisive, challenging the notion that India has achieved greatness when a significant portion of its population remains excluded. “We want to know how many in institutions, corporates, Bollywood, and Miss India represent the 90 percent. The lack of representation must be addressed,” he emphasized.
