Rahul Gandhi Promises Increased Financial Support for Women, Youth, and Farmers in Jharkhand Ahead of Elections
New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday reiterated the INDIA alliance’s commitment to prioritizing the welfare of women, youth, farmers, and the underprivileged, asserting that the opposition bloc would provide more financial assistance to these groups than the BJP has given to its “billionaire friends.” His remarks came a day before the first phase of the Jharkhand Assembly elections set to take place on November 13.
In a post on social media, Rahul Gandhi highlighted the success of the Maiyaa Samman Yojana in Jharkhand, a scheme designed to support women, especially in the face of rising inflation. “Yesterday, the fourth instalment of the Maiyaa Samman Yojana was credited to the accounts of mothers and sisters in Jharkhand. This scheme is helping women fight inflation and live with dignity,” Gandhi said. The initiative, which currently benefits 53 lakh women in the state, will see an increase in the honorarium starting December 2024, with recipients set to receive Rs 2,500.
The Congress leader further emphasized that the INDIA alliance was dedicated to empowering women and marginalized communities by providing financial support to meet their everyday needs. “I have said it before, and I will repeat it now — the INDIA alliance will give more money to women, youth, farmers, and the poor than what the BJP has given to its billionaire friends,” he stated.
Gandhi’s comments come amid an intense electoral battle between the ruling Congress-Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) coalition and the BJP, which aims to unseat the current government. The elections, scheduled in two phases on November 13 and November 20, will determine the composition of the 81-member Jharkhand Assembly, with results set to be declared on November 23.
The Congress leader’s focus on economic relief for women and the poor is likely to resonate with voters in a state where economic challenges, particularly inflation and unemployment, remain pressing issues. By enhancing the Maiyaa Samman Yojana, the Congress-JMM alliance seeks to reinforce its commitment to social welfare ahead of the crucial elections.
