Congress leader Rahul Gandhi formally informed the Lok Sabha Speaker’s office in New Delhi on Tuesday about his decision to retain the Raebareli Lok Sabha seat and vacate the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat. This decision was conveyed through a letter submitted by Gandhi to the Speaker.
On Monday, Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge announced Priyanka Gandhi’s candidacy from Wayanad at a special press conference. Should Priyanka Gandhi succeed in Wayanad, three members of the Nehru-Gandhi family will hold parliamentary positions – Sonia Gandhi in the Rajya Sabha, and Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi in the Lok Sabha.
Priyanka Gandhi expressed her commitment to contest the bypoll in Wayanad while maintaining her enduring connection with Amethi and Raebareli.
“I am honored to represent Wayanad and will ensure continuity in service. My relationship with Raebareli and Amethi remains strong; I will support my brother in Raebareli while being actively present in both constituencies,” Priyanka Gandhi stated during the press conference.
Several Congress leaders praised the decision regarding these significant party seats, with Pramod Tiwari applauding Rahul Gandhi’s move as a “strategic political decision” to retain Raebareli. Sachin Pilot extended his best wishes to Priyanka Gandhi Vadra for her electoral campaign in Wayanad, predicting strong support from the constituency.
