Rahul Gandhi to Address Election Rallies in J&K Ahead of Assembly Polls
Srinagar: Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, is set to visit Jammu and Kashmir on Monday to address two significant election rallies as the region gears up for the second phase of the Assembly polls.
Gandhi’s itinerary includes arriving in Srinagar on a special chartered flight on Monday morning, followed by a helicopter trip to Surankote in the Rajouri district. He will deliver a campaign address at a Congress rally scheduled for 12:30 PM.
Afterward, he will return to Srinagar, where he will speak at another rally in the central Shalteng constituency, supporting the local Congress candidate, Tariq Hamid Karra. Following these engagements, Gandhi will depart for New Delhi later in the evening.
In a strategic move, the National Conference (NC) and Congress have formed a pre-poll alliance in J&K, with NC contesting 52 seats and Congress taking on 31 seats. They have also agreed to leave two seats uncontested for the CPI-M and Panthers Party, respectively.
However, the alliance has encountered challenges in reaching a consensus on five seats—Banihal, Nagrota, Kishtwar, Doda in the Jammu division, and Sopore in the Valley—where both parties have fielded candidates to compete against each other.
Voting for the second phase of the J&K Assembly elections is scheduled for September 25.
