KL Rahul’s Masterclass Powers Delhi to Dominant Total Against Gujarat
In a high-octane clash at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, KL Rahul lit up Match 60 of IPL 2025 with a breathtaking century, guiding Delhi Capitals to a formidable 199/3 against Gujarat Titans on Sunday evening.
Despite losing the toss, Delhi turned the pressure into opportunity after being put in to bat. The early dismissal of Faf du Plessis (16) by Arshad Khan in the fourth over barely rattled the hosts, as Rahul took command with a blend of elegance and aggression.
A Captain’s Knock for the Ages
KL Rahul, leading from the front, put on a batting clinic with an unbeaten 112 off just 65 deliveries, peppering the ground with 14 fours and 4 sixes. His timing was exquisite, his shot selection clinical — and Gujarat’s bowlers struggled to find answers.
Partnering him was Abishek Porel, who chipped in with a quickfire 30 off 19 balls, including three towering sixes. Their second-wicket stand laid the foundation for a commanding total before Porel fell to Sai Kishore, caught by Jos Buttler.
Strong Middle-Order Support
Delhi skipper Axar Patel kept the momentum going with a spirited 25 off 16, continuing to pressure Gujarat’s bowlers alongside Rahul. Although he too succumbed to Sai Kishore, Delhi didn’t lose steam.
The innings closed on a high note, thanks to Tristan Stubbs, who smashed an unbeaten 21 off just 10 deliveries, adding late fireworks with two massive sixes.
Gujarat Titans Struggle to Contain
The Titans’ bowling attack had few answers. Arshad Khan, Prasidh Krishna, and Sai Kishore picked up a wicket each, but their efforts were largely overshadowed by an expensive bowling display. Kagiso Rabada endured a rough day, leaking 34 runs in just two overs, while Siraj and Rashid Khan remained wicketless despite attempting to keep things tight.
A Daunting Chase Awaits Gujarat
With a target of 200 runs on a batting-friendly pitch, Gujarat still has hope—but the road ahead won’t be easy. Delhi’s bowling unit, known for its discipline and depth, will look to tighten the screws early and keep pressure on the chasing side.
Can Shubman Gill’s men pull off a thrilling chase under lights? Or will KL Rahul’s masterclass prove too steep a mountain to climb?
