On the occasion of the 100th birth anniversary of her grandfather, the late Y S Raja Reddy, Andhra Pradesh Congress President Y S Sharmila paid an emotional and respectful tribute, hailing him as a pillar of strength in both her family and community.
Speaking at a commemorative event, Sharmila described Raja Reddy as a figure of immense courage and integrity, whose life was defined by unwavering commitment to public service and the welfare of his people.
“Raja Reddy stood as a beacon of bravery and moral clarity,” she said. “With patience and courage as his guiding principles, he supported those in need and responded to adversity with dignity and strength. I had the privilege of witnessing these qualities in him firsthand.”
Sharmila emphasized Raja Reddy’s profound influence on her father, the late Dr. Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, noting that it was Raja Reddy’s values and leadership that shaped him into a towering political figure known for his people-centric approach.
She highlighted his philanthropic initiatives, stating: “Driven by a deep concern for public welfare, Raja Reddy built a hospital to serve the health needs of the community. His passion for education led him to establish institutions such as a degree college, a women’s college, and a polytechnic—ensuring access to higher learning for many.”
Sharmila described her grandfather as a true people’s leader whose vision and compassion earned him lasting respect and affection. “He believed in listening to people with empathy and solving their problems with sincerity. His legacy is not just etched in stone, but in the hearts of those he served.”
Reflecting on his enduring influence, Sharmila said: “The discipline, courage, and sense of justice that Raja Reddy embodied continue to guide our path in public life. His legacy of service and commitment will remain a source of inspiration for generations to come.”
