In a move blending tradition with innovation, Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has set the wheels in motion for establishing world-class cowsheds across the state. Chairing a high-level review meeting at the Command Control Center on Saturday, the CM emphasized the need for comprehensive planning to ensure that cows are cared for in clean, humane, and well-managed environments.
The initiative, which marks a significant step in animal welfare, aims to develop modern cowsheds equipped with state-of-the-art facilities. In the first phase, the government is targeting lands under Veterinary and Agricultural Universities, affiliated colleges, and temple premises for constructing the new shelters.
During the session, CM Revanth Reddy reviewed architectural designs for a model cowshed proposed in Mkepalli, located in Moinabad Mandal of Rangareddy District. He called for thoughtful revisions in shed design and layout, ensuring the space supports the free movement and natural grazing behavior of cows—steering away from cramped, traditional models.
Highlighting the importance of ample space, he directed officials to ensure each cowshed occupies at least 50 acres. He also encouraged integrating charitable and non-profit organizations into the management and upkeep of these shelters, fostering a community-driven approach.
A committee will be constituted to finalize the master plan within four to five days, with clear instructions to present detailed designs and full budget proposals covering construction, management, and long-term maintenance.
Top officials including CMO representatives Seshadri, Srinivasa Raju, Manik Raj, and Ajith Reddy; Special Chief Secretary Savyasachi Ghosh; HMDA Commissioner Sarfaraz Ahmed; Animal Husbandry Director B. Gopi; and Rangareddy District Collector Narayana Reddy were present at the review. This ambitious project signals a shift in how livestock welfare is perceived in Telangana—moving from traditional cattle management to modern, ethical, and sustainable models that could serve as a benchmark for other states.
