New Delhi: Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy on Saturday endorsed the call for Rahul Gandhi to assume the position of Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, aligning with the sentiments of the nation’s 1.4 billion people. Reddy emphasized Gandhi’s decade-long commitment to advocating for farmers, women, and addressing unemployment.
Following the announcement of election results on June 4, where the Congress secured the second-largest number of seats in the Lok Sabha, discussions within the party have focused on Gandhi’s potential appointment as Leader of the Opposition. This marks a significant development as the Congress, out of power since 2014, stands poised to claim this role for the first time in a decade, having previously fallen short of the required 10% of total seats in both 2014 and 2019.
The matter is set to be deliberated in upcoming meetings of the Congress Working Committee (CWC) and the Parliamentary Party later today. Rahul Gandhi, who secured victories in both Wayanad and Rae Bareli constituencies, remains central to these discussions.
