In a celebration of global impact and visionary leadership, spiritual icon and Isha Foundation founder Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev was honored with the prestigious ‘Global Indian of the Year’ award by the Canada India Foundation (CIF). The accolade recognizes his extraordinary contributions to raising human consciousness and spearheading transformative environmental action through the Conscious Planet movement.
The formal award ceremony took place on May 22, 2025, in Toronto, drawing an influential crowd of Indo-Canadian leaders, entrepreneurs, and community members. The award was presented by CIF Chair Ritesh Malik and National Convenor Sunita Vyas, marking a moment of international recognition for Sadhguru’s far-reaching initiatives.
Alongside the honor, a CAD 50,000 prize was awarded to Sadhguru, which he dedicated entirely to Cauvery Calling — a large-scale river revitalization campaign aiming to rejuvenate the Cauvery River and improve the lives of over 84 million people in southern India.
“Sadhguru offers not just philosophical insights but practical, scalable solutions to urgent global issues like soil degradation, climate change, and mental well-being,” said Ritesh Malik during the ceremony. “His vision strongly aligns with Canada’s values of sustainability, inclusivity, and public health, particularly as we address the rising crisis of mental health.” The Canada India Foundation took to social media platform X to express its gratitude:
“Extremely grateful, on behalf of the Indo-Canadian community, to have Sadhguru accept the Global Indian of the Year award. His message is clear: a conscious and compassionate humanity is the path forward.” Sadhguru responded with heartfelt appreciation:
“Wonderful to see the Indian community contributing to the growth and prosperity of both Canada and India. Deeply appreciate your warmth and hospitality. Much Love and Blessings.”
