Samantha Ruth Prabhu: “My Identity as a Woman Shapes the Stories I Want to Tell”
Actress and producer Samantha Ruth Prabhu has reaffirmed her commitment to championing women’s narratives in Indian cinema, saying her identity as a woman naturally influences the creative choices she makes, both as an actor and now as a producer.
Known for portraying powerful and nuanced female characters in films and series like The Family Man 2, Rangasthalam, Majili, Yashoda, Mahanati, and Eega, Samantha is now stepping into the role of a storyteller behind the camera. Her debut production, “Subham”, is set for release on May 9 under her banner Tralala Moving Pictures.
Speaking to IANS, Samantha said, “My identity as a woman will naturally influence all of my creative choices and I’m proud of that. I believe that our industry needs more of the female perspective. It’s still incredibly male-dominated—but I’m not saying that as a bad thing.”
She emphasized the importance of bringing more women filmmakers and storytellers to the forefront, noting that women make up half of the population and deserve a stronger voice in cinema. “We need more women producers, directors, storytellers bringing their voices and experiences to the forefront,” she said.
Samantha also spoke passionately about her intent to create content that resonates with modern women, focusing on authenticity and emotional depth. “I really do want to champion projects that resonate with the modern woman, and I’m excited to shape stories that reflect our perspectives,” she added.
Her upcoming film Subham, directed by Praveen Kandregula, stars Shriya Kontham and Charan Peri. The film is described as a genre-defying family entertainer that blends humor, horror, suspense, and heart.
Samantha was last seen in the 2023 romantic drama Kushi opposite Vijay Deverakonda. As she transitions into her role as a producer, Samantha continues to be a strong advocate for change, working to carve out more inclusive spaces in Indian cinema.
