Sania Mirza Appointed as Dubai Sports Ambassador Alongside Harbhajan Singh
Indian tennis icon Sania Mirza has been appointed as one of Dubai’s official sports ambassadors, joining former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh in a prestigious group of international celebrities who represent the city’s sporting ambitions. The announcement was made during the ‘Dubai Sports Retreat’ event held on November 12, 2024, at the Museum of the Future, organized by the Dubai Sports Council.
This initiative aligns with Dubai’s vision to position itself as a global leader in sports. The event was attended by over 100 prominent sports figures, including Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai, who expressed his appreciation for the contributions of the city’s new sports ambassadors.
Mirza, who has made Dubai her home since marrying Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik in 2010, has been an influential figure in the sporting world. Despite her personal changes, including her recent divorce, Sania continues to reside in Dubai with her son, Izhaan Malik, and remains an active presence in the city’s vibrant sports community. Through her new role as an ambassador, she is expected to play a key part in promoting Dubai as a world-class destination for sports and talent development.
The appointment of Mirza and Harbhajan reflects Dubai’s commitment to nurturing sporting talent and elevating its profile as a hub for international athletics.
