Microsoft Announces $3 Billion Investment in India to Boost Cloud, AI, and Data Centers
Microsoft Chairman and CEO Satya Nadella has unveiled a major $3 billion investment in India, aimed at enhancing the company’s cloud services, artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities, and expanding its data center footprint. Nadella made this announcement during a special event in Bengaluru, emphasizing that one of the key components of this investment is to provide AI skills training to 10 million people by 2030.
The announcement follows Nadella’s recent visit to India, where he met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. During the meeting, Nadella reaffirmed Microsoft’s commitment to supporting India’s growth in the global AI sector and pledged to contribute toward the government’s vision of transforming India into a developed nation by 2047.
Highlighting India’s growing talent pool, Nadella praised the country’s professionals for their proactive approach to adopting new skills. Citing data from LinkedIn, he noted that AI skill adoption has surged globally by 71%, with India leading the charge at a remarkable 122% growth. Additionally, Microsoft’s “Advantage India” initiative, which aimed to train 2 million AI professionals by 2025, has already surpassed its target well ahead of schedule. As part of this momentum, the company has set a new goal of training 10 million people in AI skills by 2030.
Nadella described the $3 billion investment as a key milestone for Microsoft, reinforcing the company’s ongoing dedication to driving innovation in India’s technology sector. He expressed confidence that this investment would be a significant catalyst for AI advancement in India and further solidify the country’s role as a global leader in digital transformation.
