Hyderabad University Under Scrutiny: SC and ST Commission Calls for Reforms
Hyderabad: During a recent visit to the Rajiv Gandhi University of Knowledge Technologies (RGUKT)-Basar, members of the SC and ST Commission expressed serious concerns regarding the management and facilities at the institution. The commission was particularly critical of the inadequate number of caretakers assigned to the university, highlighting that only five caretakers are available for approximately 6,000 female students—a ratio deemed unacceptable.
The commission directed university officials to ensure a sufficient number of caretakers to adequately support the student population. Additionally, they emphasized the urgent need to address the ongoing faculty shortages, which have been a point of contention among students.
Compounding the issues, the commission raised concerns about the chief warden, Sridhar, who faces allegations of misconduct towards students. His absence during the meeting with commission members further fueled dissatisfaction, leading to calls for his removal.
Students took the opportunity to voice their grievances, citing a lack of adequate faculty and basic amenities. They accused the chief warden of harassment, claiming he misused university regulations to justify his actions.
In a related development, students made headlines by releasing a poster late Thursday night that accused the in-charge Vice-Chancellor, Prof. S. Venkata Ramana, of corruption. The allegations include improperly claiming his salary for nine months and appointing private individuals without due process, raising questions about the management of public funds.
Furthermore, serious accusations of sexual misconduct against female employees were leveled against the Vice-Chancellor, prompting calls for a thorough government investigation into his actions.
As the situation unfolds, it remains to be seen how the university administration will respond to these mounting pressures and whether significant changes will be made to ensure the safety and well-being of its students.
