New Delhi: The Supreme Court has directed the Delhi High Court to expedite the bail plea of former AAP minister Satyendar Jain, who is currently imprisoned on money laundering charges.
A bench comprising Justices Manoj Misra and S.V.N. Bhatti emphasized that bail matters should not be unduly delayed and urged the high court to resolve Jain’s plea at the next scheduled hearing.
Jain approached the Supreme Court after the high court granted a six-week adjournment on his bail plea. He also requested that his plea be tagged with a similar issue pending before the Supreme Court.
On May 28, the high court sought a response from the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and requested a status report on the matter. The court also called for Jain’s nominal roll from prison and scheduled the next hearing for July 9.
The ED arrested Jain on May 30, 2022, in connection with a money laundering case based on a CBI FIR filed against him in 2017 under the Prevention of Corruption Act. He had been granted regular bail by a trial court on September 6, 2019, in the case lodged by the CBI.
