Supreme Court Dismisses Kejriwal’s Plea in Defamation Case Against PM Modi
In a significant ruling on Monday, the Supreme Court of India dismissed a plea by former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who sought to challenge a Gujarat High Court order that refused to quash summons in a defamation case concerning his comments on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s educational qualifications.
The bench, comprising Justices Hrishikesh Roy and S.V.N. Bhatti, emphasized the need for a consistent judicial approach, noting that a separate bench had previously dismissed a similar plea from AAP leader Sanjay Singh on April 8.
The Gujarat High Court had earlier dismissed appeals from both Kejriwal and Singh, which aimed to challenge the summons issued by a trial court in a case filed by Gujarat University. The subsequent dismissal of their revision pleas by a sessions court had further solidified the legal challenges they faced.
As the case unfolds, it highlights the ongoing political tensions and legal battles surrounding public remarks made by politicians regarding each other, particularly in relation to educational qualifications and credibility.
