Telangana Minister Seethakka Distributes ₹3.44 Crore to Support Displaced Women
Hyderabad: Telangana Minister for Women and Child Welfare, Danasari Anasuya, popularly known as Seethakka, distributed checks totaling ₹3.44 crore to 172 women from 17 self-help groups at Praja Bhavan on Friday, October 18. This initiative is part of the Telangana government’s efforts to assist families displaced by the Musi River development project.
The program aims to provide double-bedroom houses and cash loans to enhance the livelihoods of those affected. During the distribution event, Seethakka acknowledged the challenges of relocating families but emphasized the importance of recognizing the flood risks posed by the Musi River.
“When moving from one place to another, it can be difficult, but we must understand the actual conditions. If the Musi River floods, it will cause severe problems,” she stated.
The government is offering loans of ₹2 lakh to each woman in these groups, with ₹1.40 lakh being waived off, leaving ₹60,000 for them to repay. Seethakka encouraged the women to utilize this financial support to start businesses and mentioned that sewing machines would also be provided to women’s groups for various initiatives.
Additionally, she assured that children of those resettled would receive comprehensive educational facilities. Addressing recent flood events, Seethakka noted the inundation in Chennai and Khammam, leading to significant losses for residents.
“The rising pollution in the Musi River is causing health issues,” she warned, stressing the importance of clean air and its connection to health. She assured that conditions would improve for drinking and bathing with Musi water in the coming days.
“The government is committed to supporting those affected by the floods in every possible way,” Seethakka concluded.
