Sankranthi Film Releases Face Setback Over Additional Shows: Court Orders Restriction
As the highly anticipated films Daaku Maharaaj and Sankranthi Ki Vastunnam gear up for their release this Sankranthi, expectations are high at the box office. Both films are set to release on January 12th and 14th, respectively, but recent developments may affect their potential earnings.
While the government had earlier approved a hike in ticket prices for these films, a misunderstanding regarding additional shows has led to a significant setback. A recent court ruling has directed the government to cancel the 1 AM and 4 AM shows, citing concerns over crowd management and public safety. The court’s decision came after taking into consideration the safety risks posed by the large crowds expected during these additional screenings.
Under the new regulation, the government has permitted five shows per day for each film, with one of those shows being designated as a “benefit show.” However, the number of shows allowed has been reduced, and no additional late-night shows will be allowed during the crucial ten-day release window.
This comes in the wake of heightened vigilance following the tragic stampede at Sandhya Theatre, which prompted a closer look at crowd control measures for late-night screenings in Telugu states.
